Writing
My writing career spans 20 years. Most recently, I have published academic articles for The Palgrave Encyclopedia of Global Shakespeare and the Electronic Book Review (here and here), and I was interviewed about the modern lessons from Romeo and Juliet on this podcast. My dissertation, Immersive Shakespeare, looks at the through-line of media and immersion from the Elizabethan period to contemporary Shakespearean adaptations; in particular, I explore how culture is adapting the way we experience and respond to centuries-old texts. I have worked as a journalist for the Associated Press in Rome, a now-shuttered travel magazine called Latitudes and Longitudes, and for music bi-weeklies in Southern California.
Currently, I am co-editing a book about the psychology of superfans who love the recently shuttered immersive play, Sleep No More. The collection is set to be published by ETC Press, the open access publishing house at Carnegie Mellon University, in early 2026.
My poetry can be found here and here, and my thoughts about motherhood, identity trying to be less bewildered can be found in my Substack, Betsy Writes + Travels.
